Process-led paintings, with complex and richly layered surfaces that are built up over many months in the studio. All my work is centred around colour and gesture and how the materiality of the paint effects the process and outcome.

Surfaces are built by adding and removing, editing and reworking. It feels like a dance between the application of the marks and the development of the composition - between resolution and imperfection.

Oil paint suits my way of painting with its malleability - where dabs and swipes of the brush overlap and bleed into each other. Paintings record the passing of time, my own presence, as each hour in the studio builds and a composition (however loose) begins to emerge. Flourish is evidence of this approach — the fluid marks and choice of colour coalesce into loose form.
