FAQs
How do I purchase a painting?
Visit the Available Work section where you’ll find paintings that are available to buy today. If there’s an artwork that you’d like to own you can go ahead and purchase it securely online or, if you prefer, email me first. If you want to enquire about shipping costs or have any questions about a painting before you purchase, then please get in touch first and i’ll answer any questions you might have.
What methods of payment do you accept?
You can pay securely online with a debit, credit card on this website. Online payments are processed by Squarespace Payments. Alternatively you can arrange to pay via bank transfer, or in person - for these options please get in touch.
Do you sell prints of your work?
In short, no. As a fine artist, my priority is creating original artworks. Each piece is a unique and therein lies its value. I work in a range of media and scales and this is reflected in the pricing. If you have a specific budget in mind I’d be delighted to share work that is available to purchase in that price range.
Why is shipping charged separately to the price of the artwork?
Buying a piece of art is an investment in a unique object and it’s important to know exactly how much you have paid for it (for example, you may choose to insure your art collection, or need valuations for other reasons) therefore shipping costs are listed as separate to the value of the work. I offer a range of shipping options - including a free pick up from studio, local delivery and bespoke options for overseas and large items.
You can read more on our Terms Page, or email me anytime if you require further advice before purchasing a work.
What paperwork do I receive with my artwork?
Every purchase of a painting is accompanied by a ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ as well as a receipt of purchase. Try and keep your documentation safe, as it really helps with provenance further down the line.
When will I receive my painting?
Once you’ve purchased a work, and payment is complete, we aim to ship within 14 days. It’s often much quicker than that though and can be scheduled to suit you. Shipping times can vary due to your location. Please see the Shipping Info section for full details of shipping costs.
Do you offer an artwork payment plan?
Yes, I do offer payment plans subject to certain criteria - they are available on artwork over £500GBP, please ask for full details. This is done on a discretionary basis between the artist and collector and is not a third part credit agreement.
Do you do commissions?
Yes. I do offer commissions for collectors who want a painting for a specific location or collection. The process begins with a discussion about the overall vision for the work, timescale and cost. I’m always happy to chat with collectors about possible paintings so do get in touch if this is something you might be interested in. If you would like further information abut commissioning a painting then please email me and I can send your further details about the process.
Can I reserve a painting?
Yes, paintings can be reserved for an agreed time if you need to check measurements, duties, or if you just need to ask for a second opinion. If you would like to reserve a painting then please get in touch at studio@lizfosterart.com
How do I hang my painting?
Smaller paintings are fitted with D Rings and a cord and are ready to hang at home. Larger works can be supplied with different options such as mirror plates or brackets, I will ask you what your prefer and can advise on the best option for your home.
How do I care for my painting?
There are some things that artworks don’t like - dampness, extreme variations in heat and very strong direct sunlight. So, avoid rooms like a bathroom where it gets steamy, try and avoid hanging very closely above a radiator and (especially for watercolours) avoid really strong south-facing sun traps in your home as this can bleach out the pigments reducing the vibrancy of the work.
Will my painting last?
Yes…all my canvases are prepared professionally, I take real care in making sure that no matter how experimental or abstract the painting is on the surface, the substrate has been made to last. I only work with good quality professional materials, paints, paper and canvas. If I ever use any non-traditional materials then this will be listed clearly in the artwork description.
Is the painting signed?
All my work is signed by me, the artist, on the back - that’s directly on the canvas or paper depending on the substrate. Once framed the signature might not be visible, but it is there.
Are paintings framed?
Some paintings are sold framed, others unframed. You will see in the Available Work section that each artwork is clearly listed as either ‘framed’ or ‘unframed’. If a piece is listed as framed then this cost is already included within the listed price.
Can you frame a painting for me?
Yes, of course. Please ask if you would like something framed and I will provide a quote. Alternately, I can advise on suitable framing options that you can then arrange to have done yourself. If you would like me to arrange framing then please allow 4-6 weeks.
How accurate is the on-screen image of a painting?
Great effort is taken to capture the colour and texture of the work so that you get a truthful representation of each painting. However, there will always be some variation between screen and real life - all digital screens have different setting and qualities. If you require more images to help you decide, I’m more than happy to email high resolution images or video of a painting to help you see a work. For this service please get in touch.
Can I visit your studio?
Yes, studio visits can be arranged on request, either in real life or via Zooml. I also open my studio for scheduled Open Weekends once or twice a year. If you subscribe to my email list you will be notified of any planned open days.
Can I arrange to view a work in person?
Absolutely- if you are able to visit the studio in person you can have a private viewing - please get in touch here and we’ll arrange a time to suit. If you would like to preview work in your own home or venue, then this can be arranged (a fee would apply).
Would you be interested in exhibiting at our gallery?
I exhibit my work regularly and am always interested in hearing from galleries who think my work might align with them. If you are a curator, gallerist or writer and would like to work with me then please get in touch and we can have a chat and take it from there.
